Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged all to abide by traffic rules for reducing road fatalities.
"Pedestrians are not following traffic rules...there's a necessity to change the habit and stop jaywalking to minimise road accidents," she said.
She further said, "It's not wise to blame the driver whenever a road accident takes place...many accidents take place for not following traffic rules by pedestrians."
The Prime Minister made the remarks while addressing a press conference at her official residence Ganabhaban in the city on Monday, report UNB and bdnews24.com.
The press conference was arranged to brief journalists about the outcome of her recent official visit to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Saudi King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Welcoming the new political alliance, Sheikh Hasina has said Awami League is not worried about it.
"We want them [alliance] to do a good job. But, Awami League is not at all worried about it. This is good to see that they got united," she said.
Sheikh Hasina said, "I welcome that political parties have get united. It (unity) is needed. Where's the problem if all can get united and achieve a political success?" she said.
The Prime Minister said there is political freedom, freedom of expression and freedom of journalism in the country.
"Even the judiciary is independent. In Bangladesh, people, including journalists, are now enjoying freedom," she added.
According to bdnews24.com, at the start of the briefing, the Prime Minister covered some notable aspects of her trip, including the invitation she extended to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
“We invited the Saudi king to visit,” she said. “He accepted the invitation and expressed his hope that he will make the trip to Bangladesh soon.”
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has also accepted an invitation to visit at a time convenient to both countries, the prime minister said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left for Saudi Arabia on October 16 for a four-day trip at the invitation of King Salman. She met with both the king and the crown prince during her trip.
The king emphasised continuity of development in Bangladesh while the prince said Saudi Arabia wanted to partner with Bangladesh in development, according to officials.
She inaugurated the chancery complex of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Riyadh and held a meeting with Saudi businesses on Wednesday.
On Thursday, she laid the foundation stone of the chancery building for the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Jeddah.
That day she went to Makkah for the Umrah pilgrimage.
She returned to Dhaka on Friday night.
Cabinet ministers, Awami League senior leaders and representatives from leading media organisations attended the briefing.
