PM to sit with Jatiya Party on Nov 5

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday night invited Jatiya Party to join talks with her party at Ganobhaban on November 5.

Responding to his letter to her, Sheikh Hasina sent a letter to HM Ershad inviting his party to join the dialogue at 7:30pm on Monday.

Awami League office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap and information and research affairs secretary Afjal Hossain handed over the letter to the Jatiya Party chairman at his Baridhara residence, reports UNB.

Ershad's deputy press secretary Delwar Jalali said a 20-member Jatiya Party delegation, led by its chairman, will take part in the discussion with the Prime Minister.

Talking to reporters after receiving the Prime Minister's invitation, Ershad said Thursday's scheduled talks between the Prime Minister and Dr Kamal Hossain-led Oikyafront will not be successful as the government cannot accept the alliance's seven-point demand, including the resignation of the Prime Minister.

Describing Jatiya Party as the country's one of the important parties, he said the election will be acceptable if the party joins it.

Earlier in the day, Ershad sent a letter to Sheikh Hasina seeking dialogue with her party over the upcoming general election.

Sunil Shuvo Roy, press and political secretary to Ershad, handed over the letter to the Prime Minister's Office around 12:15 pm.

Ershad, on behalf of United National Alliance (Sammilito Jatiya Jote), signed the letter, Sunil Shuvo Roy told UNB.

On Sunday, Dr Kamal Hossain, in favour of Jatiya Oikyafront, sent a letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina seeking dialogue.

Later, the Prime Minister sent a letter to Dr Kamal on Tuesday morning and invited Oikyafront leaders to join the dialogue at 7 pm on Thursday at Ganobhaban.

On Tuesday, Sheikh Hasina also invited Bikolpo Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) to participate in dialogue with her party at Ganobhaban on Friday at 7:30pm as its president Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury sent a letter to her urging her for discussion over the same issue.
