PM to inaugurate 4th RCG conference Thursday

The three-day-long fourth Regional Consultative Group (RCG) conference will begin in the city on Thursday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the conference at Intercontinental Hotel around 10 am, Enamur Rahman, state minister for Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, told journalists at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

RCG was established to tackle the major disasters and strengthen the Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination for Asia and the Pacific, to make plans in coordination with the Civil and Military manpower, to practice and to implement disaster response programmes.

A total of 120 representatives from 26 countries and 24 regional and international organisations will take part in the conference, UNB reported quoting the Minister.

The government will strengthen the combination of civil and military to combat the situation arising due to the displaced Myanmar citizens entering Bangladesh, he said.

Meanwhile, a simulation show will be organised during the conference to increase skills and tackle power during natural disasters like earthquake, the Minister said.
