PM opens metro rail services

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has opened the much-awaited metro rail services by unveiling a plaque at Uttara sector-15 today (Wednesday).

With the inauguration, the country has entered into an era of urban transportation system introducing faster mode of passenger train and the first-ever electric train to operate from Uttara to Agargaon.

Earlier, the prime minister reached the venue at 11:04am.

People have gathered at the metro rail inaugural venue to be part of the history of launching the first mass transit system in the country.

Thousands of mass people, mostly ruling party leaders and workers, also rushed to the spot chanting slogals in favour of the government for the successful launching of mass transit line 6.

The road transport and bridges ministry has organised the inaugural function in support of Dhaka Mass Transit Company ltd (DMTCL) at the Block C playground in sector 15 in Uttara.

The premier travelled from Uttara to Agargaon on a train with 200 invitee guests having orange cards in a reserved coach.

Around 3000 guests including Cabinet members, secretaries, senior government officials, diplomats and civil society members, were invited in the citizen gathering.

Among the guests arrived are ministers of  foreign affairs, liberation war, information, land, LGRD, chief whip, deputy speaker, speaker, Salman F Rahm, ICT minister, rail minister.  Actors and actresses are also in the invitee lists.
