PM asks UN chief to see plight of Rohingyas himself

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday invited UN Secretary-General António Guterres to visit Bangladesh and see the plight of Rohingya refugees himself.

The Prime Minister made the invitation when the UN chief phoned her at night, as per a UNB report.

During the conversation, Hasina also sought UN cooperation in implementing the agreement signed between Bangladesh and Myanmar over the Rohingya repartition.

PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said, the UN chief highly appreciated Bangladesh for its steps over the Rohingya issue.

The Prime Minister thanked Guterres for taking the Rohingya issue to the UN Security Council, added Karim.

The premier also told Guterres that initiatives have been taken to shift at least 100,000 Rohingyas to Bhashan Char Island in the coming monsoon.
