Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left Singapore for Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon, cutting short her four-day official visit to the city-state by a day, following the crash of a Bangladeshi plane in Nepal.
A regular flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage, took off from Changi International Airport at 4:00pm (local time) and is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 5:50pm (Bangladesh time).
Minister-in-Attendance of Singapore, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, and Ministry of Health Dr Amy Khor and High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Singapore Md Mustafizur Rahman saw her off at the airport, according to a UNB report.
At least 50 people died as an aircraft of US-Bangla Airlines from Dhaka to Kathmandu crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport in the capital of the Himalayan country on Monday.
After the crash of the aircraft, the Prime Minister talked to Nepalese Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli over telephone from Singapore to enquire about the incident. She said Bangladesh is ready to provide the Nepalese government with necessary assistance in the rescue operation and treatment of the victims of the aircraft crash.
Sheikh Hasina on Sunday last arrived in Singapore on a four-day official visit at the invitation of her Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong. During her stay in Singapore, she paid a courtesy call on first female Muslim President-elect of Singapore Halimah Yacob, held a meeting with Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong, and joined a lunch hosted by Lee Hsien Loong.
She also visited the Port of Singapore, one of the busiest seaports in the world, on Monday.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister unveiled an orchid named after her at National Orchid Garden of Singapore Botanical Garden. Later, she addressed Bangladesh-Singapore Business Forum-2018 and Bangladesh-Singapore Business roundtable at a hotel.
