Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the Bangladeshi diplomats posted abroad to work hard for boosting the country image in the external world.

On Sunday, she listened to the envoys twice while making the call after the opening ceremony of the country’s first-ever envoys' conference.

In reply, the envoys highlighted the success of their diplomacy in a number of areas including the unequivocal support of the international community for Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue.

A number of issues related to logistics and manpower supports to the missions, better services to the expatriates and better exploring trade opportunities across the world came up during the interactions, an ambassador told UNB.

According to the envoy, separate bilateral and multilateral issues, trade and commerce and Rohingya issues were also discussed.

"Many ambassadors shared their experiences, too," said the diplomat, adding that they also raised problems they are currently facing.

The diplomat said Bangladesh envoys also put forward some suggestions to address the problems.

"This is very encouraging for us," Bangladesh Ambassador to Vietnam Samina Naz told the news agency thanking the Prime Minister for giving them time.

The Prime Minister interacted with the envoys at Sonargaon Hotel and also during a dinner at Ganobhaban.

In the remaining two days of the three-day envoys' conference will have discussions on Bangladesh' foreign policy challenges, potentials, trade and investment opportunities and challenges and SDGs issues.

Prime Minister's Advisers HT Imam, Dr Gowher Rizvi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs, PMO) Abul Kalam Azad and Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque are participating at various sessions.

Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the consultation meeting with the participation of all Bangladesh envoys currently posted in 58 countries around the world titled "Diplomacy for Peace and People."

This conference, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is being held for the first time since the country’s independence.

High commissioners, ambassadors and permanent representatives of Bangladesh are attending the conference.
