Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced compensation for the families of 10 victims died during a stampede at qulkhwani of former Chittagong Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury.

The Prime Minister made the announcement on Sunday while visiting the residence of late mayor in Chittagong to console family members.

Party sources said the motorcade of Sheikh Hasina reached Mohiuddin Chowdhury's Chashma Hill residence in Sholoshahar area around 4 pm.

Mohiuddin's wife Hasina Mohiuddin and his son, AL's central organising secretary, Mahibul Hasan Nawfel received the PM.

Awami League leaders and supporters gathered on both sides of Asian Highway, from Agrabad to Sholosahar gate No 2, to welcome Sheikh Hasina, also the President of the ruling Awami League.

According to UNB, ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, former Chittagong City mayor and city Awami League president, died on December 15 at the age of 73.

On December 18, 10 people have lost their lives in a stampede during the qulkhwani at Rima Convention Centre at Askar Dighirpar in the port city.
