People suffer for want of bridge over Bau river

BOGURA, Oct 31: Due to absence of a concrete bridge over the Bau river, thousands of people including students of Satani Government Khaduli Primary School at Mothurapur union under Dhunot upazila of the district has been suffering much.

The students are to cross the river to reach in the school every day. Some students even fall down and damage their clothes as well as books.

The farmers of the union are unable to sell their produce to other areas.

A good number of traders in the area said they have to spend more money while sending different produces including rice, jute, vegetable, banana and betel leaf to the upazila headquarters and district town.

Students of Satani Government Khaduli Primary School (SGKPS) Shohag, Sourab, Ruposhi, Sadia and Antoara said they get wet daily while crossing the water body to go to the school.

Headmaster of the school Abdul Karim said it is hard for the students to attend the school in the situation.

Academic activity of the school gets setback in absence of a bridge over the water body, he added.

The chairman of managing committee of the school informed the matter to the authority through the upazila education office but get not any response yet. Due to absence of the bridge the students' attendance has begun to decline.

Chairman of Mathuarpur union Harun-or-Rashid said, "I have already sent a letter to the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry seeking fund to build a bridge over the river immediately." 

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Razia Sultana said if the authority concerned provides adequate fund in this connection, construction work for the bridge will be started.
