After the relaxation of lockdown from August 11, most of the city dwellers were found flouting the health safety guidelines posing threat to public health and increasing the risk of transmission of coronavirus infection.

The government relaxed the countrywide strict lockdown on August 11 last. Earlier, the latest spell of lockdown was enforced from July 23 to August 10 last aiming to stem the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Visiting different bus stops including Gulistan, Jatrabari, Kamalapur, Malibagh and Moghbazar, this correspondent found on Sunday that most of the drivers and passengers had the tendency to disobey health safety rules.

Gafur, the driver of a bus running on Motijheel-Mirpur route, told the FE that he felt uneasy to wear face masks. He used to wear masks at different intersections where traffic police remain vigilant, he added.

Apart from public transports, customers were seen violating the health safety rules in kitchen markets and shopping malls.

Health experts and epidemiologists have expressed concern over violation of health guidelines, saying that the tendency to ignore the rules might help increase the Covid-19 infection.

They suggested that the government and law enforcement agencies take necessary steps so that people follow the health safety guidelines properly.
