Peaceful movement to continue until Khaleda's release: BNP

BNP says it will continue movement in a peaceful way until its Chairperson Khaleda Zia is released from jail.

The party made the announcement during a human chain amid huge police presence in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka city.

Addressing the party men, its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “You have expressed your anger and opposition against the jailing of our leader Khaleda Zia and showed love for her by joining the human chain braving many obstacles.”

“We would like to clearly say that our peaceful movement will continue until our leader is freed from jail.”

The human chain is part of the BNP’s second round of protest starting this day in protests against the jailing of Khaleda in a graft case on Thursday, reports UNB.

A special court on that day sentenced Khaleda to five years in jail in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Five others, including her son who is now heading the party from abroad, also got five-year jail term.

The next two days, the BNP held demonstrations across the country, including the capital Dhaka, amid obstacles by police.
