The coronavirus pandemic has made little difference in the pre-Eid home rush picture as a 20km long tailback led to the Paturia Ferry Ghat in Manikganj this morning (Friday) ahead of Eid-al-Azha to be celebrated tomorrow (Saturday).

Many had thought that not many people would go home this Eid amid the pandemic and so it would be a little rush on the pre-Eid day.

But the picture was different.

Tonu, a banker who lives in Dhaka, said she boarded a home-bound bus at 8:00pm yesterday (Thursday) but her bus still got stuck in the tailback at 5:00am.

She said that they got onto a ferry with the bus at 11:30am after waiting for six and a half hours in the jam.

Tanvir Ahmed, manager (commerce) of BIWTC, Paturia office, said the tailback formed despite both ferry and launch services operating normally on the Paturia-Daulatdia route.

He said five of six pontoons at Daulatdia terminal and all four pontoons at Paturia terminal are now in operation.

According to the BIWTC, a total of 34 launches are plying along 18 riverways on the Paturia-Daulatdia route and 16 on the Aricha-Kazirhat route this day.
