Patients’ sufferings mount as RMCH interns stage sit-in locking main gate

The interns of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) on Wednesday morning locked the main entrance of the hospital and staged a sit-in demanding withdrawal of cases filed against their fellows.

The protesting interns started their programme at 10:00am which continued for four hours, causing acute sufferings to the patients.

Witnesses said the protesters locked the two main gates of the emergency unit around 10:00am and took position in front of those to press home their demand. They unlocked the gates and returned to their work around 1:00pm after being assured by the hospital director and local Awami League leader Dablu Sarkar.

Additional police were deployed to fend-off any unwanted situation at the hospital.

Earlier on February 14, some interns assaulted ATM Enamul Zahir, an associate professor of the Law Department of Rajshahi University, as he allegedly misbehaved with a female intern of the hospital.

Later, Rajshahi Medical Collage Hospital (RMCH) authorities filed a case against the professor while RU Law Association general secretary and also Rajshahi Judge Court advocate Touhid Al Hasan, on the behalf of the RU teacher, also filed a case with Rajshahi Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court against eight inters, reports UNB.
