Padma erosion disrupts ferry service in Daulatdia

Ferry operation from No 5 ferry terminal in Daulatdia has been suspended as it witnessed severe erosion by the Padma River in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari district.

The Bangladesh Inland and Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) authorities suspended the ferry operation from the terminal as its 50 meters area went into the gorge of the mighty river on Tuesday.

Already, the authorities concerned have thrown GO bags in the area.

Besides, three other ferry terminals in the upazila have been facing erosion threats, reports UNB.

During a recent visit to the ferry terminal, the news agency correspondent learnt that the platoon of the ghat has been shifted to another place with the help of a ship named ‘IT-380’ of BIWTC to protect it from erosion.

Ten shops along the terminal have been relocated to safer places amid the threat of river erosion.

Moniruzzaman, an assistant officer of BIWTA, said the work of throwing GO bags is underway and already 200 bags have been used on Tuesday.
