More than 0.21 million new motorcycles got their registration from Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) in the first seven months of the current calendar year.
Of these, some 57,631 new motorcycles were registered in Dhaka during January and July of 2018.
It means, at least 271 new motorcycles were put into service in Dhaka every day during the first seven months of the current year.
The rate was, however, much higher compared to that across the country which was 1034 new motorcycles per day.
The surge in adoption of motorcycle as private individual vehicle also reflects the lack of adequate public transport in the country.
