Outpatients receive free treatment at govt hospitals

Government hospitals across the country provided free medical treatment to outpatients as part of their initiatives to pay homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman coinciding with his 99th birthday.

"The free treatment was provided to the patients from 9:00am to 12 noon," a health ministry spokesman said.

Simultaneously, he said, the hospitals also provided improved diets like Polau, chicken roasts and egg curries to the patients admitted in the facilities.

"Around 116 patients received free medical services at the outdoor of National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) and they were given improved diets at noon", said Dr M Jahangir Alam, Associate Professor of National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).

In Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan inaugurated free medical services when 5,680 patients received free medical treatment at different sections of the hospital.

BSMMU officials said some 400 officers, nurses and employees joined the campaigning by assisting the doctors to provide the free medical services.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital officials said a total of 2,360 patients received free treatment from the outdoor of the hospital.

Another major state-run facility Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital provided free treatment to some 1,600 patients on the day.

Sir Salumullah Medical College Hospital, Mugda Medical College Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Kidney Institute, Mental Health Service Institute, Matuail Mother and Child Hospital and the Institute of Eye science are other major facilities which also carried out the free treatment campaign.

The state-run hospitals across Bangladesh continued to provide free treatment on March 17 in line with a call by health minister Mohammad Nasim, reports BSS.
