Oikyafront rally in Dhaka Tuesday

The Jatiya Oikyafront will hold a rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan on Tuesday to push for their seven-point demand.

Main component of the Oikyafront, the BNP announced this at a press briefing at its Naya Paltan office in Dhaka city on Friday, just a day after the alliance found ‘no solution’ in talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about their demand.

Senior joint secretary general of the party Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, who briefed the media, said the party will hold a joint working committee meeting at the central office on Saturday (November 3) to make the rally a success.

Regarding the talks between the ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance and the Jatiya Oikyafront on Thursday, he said the government was stubborn in its stance, which bodes ill for a free, fair and inclusive election and the country’s future democracy.

People’s aspirations were not reflected in the dialogue due to the ruling party’s non-response to their seven-point demand, he said, adding, “Participation in the election will be suicidal without realising (fulfilling) our seven-point demand.”

Rizvi threatened the government with a movement to realise their demand if the government continues to disregard their demand.

The senior BNP leader said on one hand, the government, in the name of dialogue, is trying to appear sincere, but on the other hand, it is maintaining its brutality and arresting their party leaders and activists.

He condemned the arrest of the party leaders and activists and demanded their immediate release.
