Noteworthy gap exists between male, female mobile phone use

A noteworthy gap exists between male and female youths in terms of their access to different technologies, namely access to the internet and the use of mobile phone and computer, a study has revealed.

According to the study, around 80 per cent of youth own mobile phones, of which only 40 per cent of females use the phones.

The findings of the study titled ‘Dynamics of Gender and Youth Inclusiveness in Technology in Bangladesh’ were revealed at a webinar jointly hosted by the South Asian Network on Economic Modelling (SANEM) and ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB).

Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury, Deputy Education Minister joined the virtual programme as the chief guest with Mr Farah Kabir, Country Director of ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB) in the chair.

Dr Selim Raihan, executive director Sanem and Anir Chowdhury, Policy Advisor to the Access to Information or a2i programme under the prime minister’s office, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha, research director moderated the discussion and Mahtab Uddin, research economics of SANEM presented the study findings.
