The northeastern districts of Bangladesh and adjacent areas in India may face flash floods due to heavy rain.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre has warned of possible flash floods before the rainy season in Moulvibazar, Sylhet, Habiganj and Kishoreganj, reports bdnews24.

It forecast heavy downpour in Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Brahmanbaria to have heavy rain on Tuesday.

The India Meteorological Department has also forecast heavy rain on Tuesday in West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya—adjacent to Bangladesh.

Md Abdur Rahman Khan, senior meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department, said Mymensingh and Sylhet division, along with other districts—Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, Rangamati and Khagrachhari—are likely to have heavy rain over 89 millimetres with gusty winds on Tuesday.

Met office officials said western low-pressure is hovering over Jharkhand-West Bengal and adjacent areas which has been extended to Assam through northern parts of Bangladesh. The seasonal low-pressure exists over the southern Bay of Bengal, according to the met office.
