The Met Office has no good news to give about the ongoing heat wave while cyclonic storm Fani is drawing clouds from swathes of adjoining areas as it is heading towards the Andhra coast of India over the Bay of Bengal.

Mild to moderate heat wave is scorching Bangladesh for six days in mid Baishakh, the first month of summer on Bangla calendar.

Mercury rose as high as to 39.9 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi - the maximum temperature recorded in Bangladesh on Sunday.

In Dhaka, the highest temperature was 35.8 degrees Celsius while it was 39.4 in Chuadanga, and 38.5 in Ishwardy and Jashore.

Citing senior meteorologist Omar Faruq, bdnews24.com reported that there is little hope of better weather now.

“There is no rain now as the clouds over the land are racing towards the eye of the storm. That’s why the heat wave is continuing,” he said.

In Monday’s forecast, the Met Office said rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions and the regions of Cumilla and Kushtia with hails at isolated places.

Weather may remain mainly dry and day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country, it said.
