No more seating service in city's public transports

Dhaka's residents will see no seating and gate-lock bus services after three days to ease commuter sufferings, according to a top road transport leader.

"Seating and gate-lock bus services in the capital end within the next three days. There will be no such service…," says Road Transport Owners Association of Bangladesh secretary general K Enayet Ullah.

He was addressing a press briefing at the association's Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue office in the capital on Wednesday.

Mr Enayet says the association will deploy its teams in the city today (Thursday) to paste stickers on buses running on gas and diesel.

Eleven teams, aided by law-enforcement agencies and executive magistrates, will launch drives to help check CNG-run buses from overcharging passengers, he adds.

"We'll deploy 11 teams with the support of law-enforcement agencies, including executive magistrates, to prevent CNG-run buses from charging extras from passengers."

Mr Enayet said they surveyed 6,000 buses under 120 city transport services and found only 196 CNG-run buses, which is 3.26 per cent of the total services here.

Great Turag Transport's 40 buses, Anabil Super's five, Probati-Banasri Paribahan's 12, Srabon Transport's 30, Asian Transport's 20, Megalaya Transport's five, Himalaya Transport's 14, VIP Automobiles' two, Meghla Transport's 27, Shikar Paribahan's eight, Bikalpa Auto's one, Gabtoli Link's 11 and No.6 Matijheel- Banani Coach's 21 run on CNG.
