No bar to hold BFUJ election

A Labour Court on Monday cleared the way for holding the election of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ).

First Labour Court Chairman Dr Shahjahan withdrew the stay order on the election following a petition filed by BFUJ Election Commissioner Alamgir Hossain.

Following the order, there is no bar in holding the BFUJ election, said Advocate Mabinul Islam, a counsel of Alamgir Hossain, reports UNB.

Earlier, in the day, Mabinul Islam filed the petition, on behalf of Alamgir Hossain, seeking withdrawal of the stay order on BFUJ election.

On Thursday, First Labour Court Chairman Dr Shahjahan issued a stay order on the BFUJ election in response to a petition filed by two journalists.

Two Journalists-Khairul Alam and Sebika Rani -- filed a petition before the court. According to the petition, a total of 26 voters have been excluded from the voter list and more than 200 people were denied membership.

The election of BFUJ was supposed to be held on July 6 (Friday).
