A trial tribunal in Rajshahi on Wednesday convicted and sentenced them to life-term imprisonment for killing a local unit leader of Bangladesh Awami League Abu Khan.
Divisional Tribunal Judge Anup Kumar found them guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict in presence of them in the court dock, reports BSS.
The convicts are: Ariful Islam Arif, 24, Rabiul Islam, 27, Sabuj Ahmed, 22, Ahsan Habib, 23, Almas Khan, 28, Ayub Ali, 32, Mokbul Hossain, 28, Rubel Hossain, 26, and Golam Rabbani, 23. They were also fined Taka 5,000 each.
Seventeen other accused of the case were acquitted as the murder charge brought against them could not be proved beyond doubt.
According to the prosecution story, in brief, is that accused beat Abu Khan, 50, indiscriminately to death near his house at Soair Balal village under Shingra village under Natore district as sequel to a previous enmity on March 29, 2014.
Younger brother of the victim lodged a case with Shingra Police Station on the same day. Upon completion of the investigation police pressed charges accusing 26 persons.
