Nine Bangladeshis held while going to India illegally

Nine Bangladeshis, including women and children, were arrested by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) while they were trying to go to India illegally through the Jhenaidah border on Saturday night.

BGB identified the arrestees as – Laily Khatun, 70, Nazmul Hasan, 18, Manirul Islam, 26, Masura Khatun, 21, Jisan Babu, 4, Amir Hossain, 30, Rekha Khatun, 28, Samaul Hossain, 9, Rahat Hossain, 6.

They are residents of Jashore and Narail, UNB reported.

A BGB official said they were tipped off about a group trying to cross the border illegally.

“A team of BGB-58 conducted a drive along the Baghadanga border in Maheshpur upazila and arrested nine people around 9pm,” said assistant director of Khalishpur BGB-58 Mohammad Nazrul Islam.

Later, they were handed over to Maheshpur police. A case was filed in this connection.
