New York Fire: Bangladeshis are safe

No Bangladesh citizen is affected by the fire in New York, said a Bangladesh diplomat on Friday.

"So far, we have not heard about any Bangladeshi being affected by the fire in Bronx, New York," Bangladesh Consul General in New York Shameem Ahsan said.

According to UNB, the diplomat said they are trying to find out more information. A good number of Bangladeshis live in Bronx area, Shameem said.

The fire swept through a Bronx apartment building Thursday on one of the coldest nights this winter, killing 12 people and leaving four more fighting for their lives, city officials said.

The dead included a child around a year old, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said during a briefing outside the building.

The blaze broke out at a five-story building, a block from the grounds of the Bronx Zoo.
