Bangladesh’s new police chief Dr Jabed Patwary on Thursday said that the law enforcement agencies would take "Zero Tolerance" policy against drugs and militancy.

The IGP came up with the warning while talking to reporters at the Police Headquarters.

"The law enforcing agency will go ahead in a planned way to keep the law-and-order situation under control in a bid to implement of government's Vision 2021 and Vision 2041," he said.

Terming the journalists as co-warriors of the police, he thanked both the print and electronic media for raising awareness against militancy across the country.

About the involvement of police in crimes, Jabed Patwary said, "Now the number of police is around two lakh... a handful of them is involved in criminal activities. Departmental actions will be taken against those involved in crimes."

He, however, said law enforcement agencies will not take anyone's personal liability, according to UNB report.

The IGP said professionalism like increasing monitoring, accountability, using information and technology will be prioritised along with developing the standard of overall policing system.

To ensure professionalism and standard of policing system, the law enforcers, mass media and the country's people will have to work together, he said.
