In a welcome move, Malaysia has opened its door for Bangladeshi workers with the withdrawal of more than three years of ban on recruiting people from Bangladesh since 2018.
To this effect, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two countries on Sunday.
From now, Bangladeshi workers will enjoy employment insurance coverage from employers under the new deal on manpower recruitment between Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur.
Besides, employers will bear all necessary expenses of workers including medical checkup, Covid-19 test, quarantine, accommodation, and the expenses of returning of workers to their home country, according to press release, issued by the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare.
Bangladesh’s Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmad and Malaysian Minister of Human Resources Saravanan Murugan signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Malaysia from their respective countries.
The reopening comes after more than three years' ban following the alleged syndication under the previous recruitment system.
The Malaysian government has stopped hiring workers from Bangladesh since 2018.
Officials and manpower recruiters believe the number of overseas jobs will increase significantly in 2022 following the resumption of the Malaysian market.
More than 1.0-million Bangladeshis have gone to Malaysia for jobs since 1978, discloses data available with the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training.
