State-run Northern Electricity Supply Company Limited (NESCO) will install some 500,000 pre-paid electricity meters in Rajshahi division to serve consumers better.
State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid inaugurated a project for installation of the meters virtually on Thursday.
Consumers will avail 1.0 per cent rebate on their electricity bills as incentive for using pre-paid meters, he said.
Inaugurating the programme as the chief guest, Mr Hamid urged the top officials for introducing user-friendly latest technology to ensure satisfaction of the users.
People will be reluctant to use new technology if they find it difficult to use, he added.
Mr Hamid also urged power officials to ensure round-the-clock, 24X7, service to subscribers.
Presided over by Chairman of NESCO’s board of directors Humayun Kabir, the virtual meeting was addressed, among others, by Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Power Secretary Dr Sultan Ahmed, Bangladesh Power Development Board Chairman Md Belayet Hossain and NESCO Managing Director Zakiul Islam.
