The body of a man who went missing after jumping from a trawler into the Shitalakkhya River two days ago has been found dead near in the port city of Narayanganj.
The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Kamal Hossain, who had jumped from his vessel in order to avoid an oncoming crash between it and another vessel on Friday.
A joint unit of naval police and fire service officials recovered the body from Syedpur Koyla Ghat area early Sunday, said Kamrul Islam, chief of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station.
Kamal, a resident of the Kashipur Khil Market area in the Fatullah town of Narayanganj’s sadar upazila, was a lock operator of a hosiery factory at Nayamati area.
Kamal and his brother Jamal were travelling home by trawler through the Central Kheyaghat around 9:30pm on Friday.
Kamal had jumped into the river after fearing a collision between the trawler and another vessel carrying wheat that was travelling in the opposite direction, according to a bdnews24 report.
The body was handed over to the family, OC Kamrul said.
