NAOGAON, July 30: Famers in the district are passing busy time transplanting Aman paddy seedlings.
According to the officials at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), over 16,7456 hectares of land are fixed to cultivate Aman paddy in the district this season.
During a recent visit to different areas in the district this correspondent found some 230 hectares of T-Aman land were inundated by the floodwater recently.
Moreover, Aus paddy on some 1685 hectares of land and Aman Seedbeds on 900 hectares have already been damaged.
The DAE and the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) provided quality seeds to the cultivators.
Farmer Kazi Shoyeeb of Mohadebpur upazila said, "I have brought five bighas of land under T-Aman paddy cultivation this season. I have already spent Tk 20,600 as production cost and am expecting a healthy yield."
DAE official sources said they expect a bumper T-Aman production this year. "All measures have been taken so that the peasants can grow the crop without any hassle", officials added.
BSS report from Chapainawabganj adds: A total of 51,161 hectares of land have been brought under Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy cultivation in the district this year.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), T-Aman would be cultivated on 8,750 hectares of land in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila, 750 hectares in Shibganj upazila, 14,143 hectares in Gomostapur upazila, 22,578 hectares in Nachole upazila and 4,240 hectares in Bholahat upazila.
The production target has been fixed at 0.14 million tonnes of rice in the district, the sources said.
The farmers of the district have started cultivating T-Aman paddy.
