Nahid stresses mass awareness to keep students aloof from militancy

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Wednesday urged the teachers and guardians to be aware so that students are not misguided by evil forces.

The minister camde the call while speaking at the 5th convocation of State University of Bangladesh (SUB) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, according to an official release.

He also called for protecting students from militancy and drug addition to ensure a better future.

Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan, Vice Chancellor of SUB Prof Dr Md Sayeed Salam, Chairman of the Trustee Board of SUB Dr AM Shamim and teachers, among others, addressed the convocation.

Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, founder chairman of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, was the convocation speaker.

Nahid said the government will take legal actions against the private universities which have failed to fulfill their conditions to run the university under the rules of the Private University Act-2010.

Some of the private universities are yet to fulfil their conditions as per the Act and they have to face legal actions after the scheduled timeframe, he added.

Nahid urged the authorities concerned to ensure congenial and good academic atmosphere at all educational institutions to make those free from all sorts of terror activities, reports BSS.

The government has expanded the opportunity of higher education across the country for all students, he said, adding, "Students are easily receiving higher education as we have expanded facilities for higher education up to the upazila level."
