Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has condemned the attack on the residence of the Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor.
The minister said legal action will be taken against the attackers.
Nurul Islam Nahid came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at the secretariat on Monday, reports UNB.
"The attack is unprecedented; vested quarter is instigating violence in their own interest," he said.
"There's a constitutional obligation about quota in public service. The government has clarified it recently," he said.
Candidates under quota categories won't get the job if they do not have the required merit and qualifications, the minister said.
"And if the posts remain vacant for unavailability of qualified candidates under quota those will be filled from the merit list," he said.
The minister also urged the authorities concerned to identify the troublemakers and take stern action against them.
Amid demonstrations in Shahbagh and adjacent areas early Monday seeking reform of the quota system, some unknown attackers entered the VC's residence breaking its main gate and ransacked several rooms and furniture.
The attackers also set fire to two vehicles parked inside the VC's residence.
