Myanmar mobilises troops near Bangladesh border

Myanmar has deployed troops in a few points near her border with Bangladesh without what Dhaka said as any provocation.

The Bangladesh authorities observed suspicious movement of Myanmar troops aboard trawlers along the international border since Sunday morning, Bangla daily ProthomAlo reported.

In Dhaka, the newspaper added, the foreign ministry summoned the Myanmar ambassador to Bangladesh to hand over a letter of protest against such activities along the border.

Dhaka also asked the Myanmar authorities to stop any provocative activities and come to negotiation table to resolve issues between the two countries.

Myanmar deployed troops along the border after her military personnel launched a crackdown on Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine in 2017, forcing more than 740,000 people to take shelter in Bangladesh.

Over one million Myanmar nationals are now living camps in Cox’s Bazar.

Recently, two Myanmar soldiers confessed to killing and violation of human rights against the Rohingya, at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
