Murder suspect dies in Dhaka ‘gunfight’

A man has been killed in an alleged shootout with the Detective Branch of Police in Dhaka’s Bhatara cattle market area.

The man has been identified as 28-year-old Shariful Islam. He was a suspect in the murder of Banani manpower exporter Siddiqur Rahman, according to the police.

Shariful died in a ‘gunfight’ in the early hours of Monday, said Md Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police, bdnews24 reported.

“A DB police team went to the area on a tip-off that a gang of hired killers was gathering to commit a targeted killing there. They opened fire on law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate,” he said.

The man suffered bullet injuries during the gunfight. He was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
