GOPALGANJ, Mar 09: Farmers in Muksudpur upazila of the district are expecting a bumper production of BARI Musur-6 this season.
According to the upazila DAE office sources, a total of 800 hectares of land have been brought under BARI Musur-6 farming in the upazila with the production target of 1,600 tonnes.
Md Moniruzzaman, upazila agriculture officer (UAO), Muksudpur, said farmers in this region have not witnessed such massive production of lentil in the past 15 years.
A good number of peasants said newly-harvested lentil is selling at Tk 2,600 per maund in the local market.
A handsome profit from small investment for a short duration is encouraging the cultivators to grow the crop on more lands.
The official said about 3,000 farmers are engaged in production of the lentil variety in the upazila.
Siraj Munshi of Krishnadia village under Pasargati union said, "I have cultivated BARI Musur-6 on one acre of land this year."
He said he will start harvesting the crop within a few days. "I expect around 25 maunds of musur, whose current market price will be Tk 65,000. My production cost was Tk 20,000."
Md Solayman Ahmed, sub-assistant agriculture officer of Pasargati union, said weather and soil in this area are suitable for cultivation of BARI Mosur-6 and farmers in this region are more benefited from the production.
