Move to introduce 15 new train services by 2020

Railways Minister Mohammad Nurul Islam Sujan has said Bangladesh Railway will introduce 15 more new train services across the country by 2020.

"Over 220 most modern new passenger coach will reach in the country within the current year and five new services will be launched by this year and remaining rail routes will be opened by next year utilising these new coaches," the minister informed.

Nurul Islam Sujan disclosed the information while visiting the Pahartali Locomotive workshop of East Zone Railway in Chattogram on Wednesday afternoon, reports BSS.

Describing the crisis of locomotive engines as the only obstructions for introducing new routes, the minister said railway authority is mulling for import of 20 locomotive engines from India to resolve the engine crisis.

He also apprised that the existing locomotive are outdated and expired for which schedules of services could not be maintained properly.

“I am new in railway ministry and trying utmost to revive the glory of railway service,” he added.

"Once upon a time, there were good reputations of railway services and to revive the previous glories of Railway department will be more effectively reorganized for sustaining the railway service in the country”, said the minister.

Sujan said for the better interest of the passenger, ticket selling system has been digitalised with online ticket purchasing process.

Earlier, the minister also visited the Railway Training academy at Halishahar in the city in morning and went round the training centre.

He also inspected the railway yard and some abandoned buildings of railway while back to Pahartali workshop.

The Railway Minister also informed about the introduction of new rail service to Rangpur and 20 passenger coaches of meter gauge will operate in this route.

 Now only one train operating in this route and railway authority will deploy one new service to Rangpur involving 26 coaches before Eid holiday.
