A woman allegedly committed suicide by taking poison after killing her 'mentally and physically challenged' daughter in the same way at Goaldanga village in Ashashuni upazila of Satkhira on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Shanti Rani Mandal, 36, wife of Uttam Mandal and her nine-year-old daughter Tamalika Mandal of the village, reports UNB.
Quoting local people, Biplab Kumar Nath, officer-in-charge of Ashashuni Police Station, said Shanti Rani and her husband Uttam used to quarrel over the activities of their mentally and physically challenged daughter .
Being failed to bear the agony, Shanti Rani gave poison to Tamalika with food in the morning and she herself also took poison.
Getting no response from the two, Tandra Mandal, elder daughter of the couple, informed the matter to local people.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to a local hospital morgue.
The reason behind the deaths will be known after post-mortem, said police.
