‘Mosquito-control workers to be brought under GPS tracking’

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will bring its mosquito-controlling and cleaning workers under the GPS tracking system to strengthen monitoring of their activities, said Mayor Atiqul Islam on Sunday.

"With a view to ensuring transparency and accountability, the DNCC will bring all mosquito-controlling and cleaning workers under the GPS tracking from next week," he said.

Atiqul made the remark while addressing a seminar at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) in the city, reports UNB.

He said names and mobile numbers of all mosquito-controlling workers and monitoring officials for DNCC zone-1 to 5 have already been uploaded on the DNCC website so that the people can contact them.

The mayor urged the city dwellers living in these zones to help bring the workers and officials under accountability by knowing their names and mobile numbers from the website.

He urged students to conduct door-to-door campaign to make people aware on how to prevent dengue, and to keep their houses and surroundings clean for the same purpose.

Later, Atiqul Islam along with students cleaned AIUB campus by removing stagnant water from different pots as part of the campaign to destroy breeding places of Aedes mosquito.

AIUB Vice Chancellor Dr Carmen Z. Lamagna and DNCC Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Md Mominur Rahman Mamun, among others, were present at the programme.
