Some 2,018 online newspapers have so far applied seeking registration with the Press Information Department.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu revealed the statistics while replying to a question of lawmaker Nurunnabi Chowdhury in the parliament on Thursday.
Noting that the government has no list of the country's online newspapers, Inu said the registration process of online newspaper is underway.
According to UNB, he said the number of the country's registered newspaper is 3025, while that of government-approved private television channels is 45.
