Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Saturday said, as conspirators against the country are still active, there will be more assault on the country in the next two years.
The minister said this while presenting his observations on the sanctions against RAB by the US and on the appointments of lobbyists by BNP and its allies.
He said it while delivering a speech at a virtual discussion organised by the Bangabandhu Foundation.
I believe that there will be more assaults against the country in the next two years, the minister said urging the workers of the Foundation to remain alert.
He pointed out that BNP and its allies like Jamaat e Islami were involved in hatching conspiracy against the country through appointing lobbyists for a long time.
“Appointing lobbyists is not illegal or abnormal but I never heard that an opposition party appoints a lobbyist to harm the interest of the country,” Dr Momen said.
Terming the USA as the biggest trade partner, the minister said that the US has a crucial contribution to the economic development of Bangladesh.
“They are the biggest buyer of our RMG product. They have contribution in our energy, agriculture and other key sectors. But BNP asked them to stop their assistance to Bangladesh so that the people of the country will suffer” the minister said asking how a political party does take such a move to harm the people of the country.
According to the minister, BNP and its allies wrote to the US officials that shifting Rohingya refugees to Bhasanchar island will harm the national security of the US.
“They argued that the core objective of the US Indo Pacific Strategy is to ensure an open and peaceful Bay of Bengal but Rohingya’s presence in the Bhasanchar will disrupt that objective,” Dr Momen said noting that all these allegations are baseless.
Terming RAB as a very good institution, the minister said due to the activities of RAB, terrorism and drug trafficking could be curbed from society resulting in peace in society.
“But they want to disband the RAB as if they are benefitted from drug trafficking and terrorist activities”.
Regarding the letter to the EU parliament requesting sanctions against Bangladesh, the minister said the letter was full of false and fictitious allegations against the country.
“While going through the letter I thought it was written about some other countries, not about Bangladesh”.
The foreign minister said that the Bangladesh missions in other countries are the main lobbyists of the country but sometimes they may not have the access to the right place at the right time to sense the conspiracy.
In this case, the expatriate Bangladeshis can play an important role to thwart the conspiracy, he noted.
He also urged the expatriate Bangladeshis to present the real picture of the country’s huge developments over recent years which has not been highlighted yet.
