Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Dhaka visit will top the agenda during the foreign secretary-level meeting between Bangladesh and India on January 29.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials, Bangladesh Foreign Secretary (FS) Masud Bin Momen is likely to fly to Delhi on January 28 for the meeting.

Definitely, the Indian Prime Minister's visit to Dhaka will be the main focus of the meeting, said Mr Masud.

Besides, the issues, which came up during the meeting between the two prime ministers in December, will be discussed further to move forward.

These include enhancing trade and connectivity, expediting implementation of the Indian LoC projects, stopping border killing, and sharing water of common rivers will also be on focus.

He noted that a fruitful discussion regarding border killing and related issues was held during the latest DG-level meeting between the border forces of two countries.

"We hope to see a positive outcome in practice. But criminal activities on border areas are also responsible for border killings."

On trade, both the countries will try to remove various kinds of barriers, he added.

"We have requested India to let us know beforehand about certain trade restrictions, which could affect our people, so that we can take due steps."

Responding to a question he also said talks are going on for providing a corridor to Nepal and Bhutan from Bangladesh through India.

Besides, proposal to provide a corridor from West Bengal to the north-eastern parts of India is also under discussion.

"But these will be finalised after taking into consideration all issues concerned. We want a win-win situation, and do not want to throw away any opportunity due to 'fear of unknown'."

Myanmar, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal can also be accommodated in the regional connectivity schemes to get benefit of the deep seaports as well as enhance economic activities, Mr Masud noted.

Both Bangladesh and India are also in discussion to trade surplus power with other countries.

"There are certainly some irritants in the ties between the two countries. But these should not hold us back from expanding cooperation to other areas, which can benefit both the sides," he added.
