A mobile court sentenced former Lakshmipur acting Civil Surgeon Salah Uddin Sharif to three months in jail for ‘mistreating’ Lakshmipur Additional Deputy Commissioner Shaikh Murshidul Islam.

The court issued the decision based on an incident regarding entry into the schoolyard at Kakoli Shishu School at the Lakshmipur DC colony, which is under the supervision of the district administration.

“A mobile court gave him three months in prison,” Sadar Police Station OC Lokman Hossain said. “We are taking him into custody. I do not know any further details.”

Eyewitnesses to the incident say the doctor was jailed after an argument broke out between the two.
“My father was dropping off my younger brother and I,” Salah Uddin’s daughter, college student Nadia Jafrin Chadni told.

“My father was hurrying to drop me off after he had taken my brother to school. An argument broke out between the two over entering the schoolyard.”

A bdnews24.com report says “Salah Uddin Sharif has received three months in prison for mistreating the ADC,” Sadar Upazila UNO Md Nooruzzaman said.

Lakshmipur Bangladesh Medical Association President Ashfaqur Rahman says the incident is a personal dispute and has registered a complaint. He announced that medical workers will go on strike if Sharif is not released by 12pm on Tuesday.
