Journalist Utpal Das has been found safe more than two months after he went missing.

Utpal, a senior reporter with online news outlet Purboposhchimbd, is now in police custody.

Police in Narayanganj said Utpal was dropped off from a car at a filling station in Rupganj’s Adhuria area late Tuesday.

“A team from the Bhulta police outpost brought him in after people at the filling station reported the incident,” bdnews24 reported, quoting Additional Superintendent of Police Mostafizur Rahman.

He confirmed that Utpal was taken into their custody and his family has been informed.

Earlier, in a phone call with UNB at 12:52am Wednesday, Utpal said, "Now, I'm at a refuelling station in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district. I'm returning to my home in Narsingdi."

Prior to this, Utpal called his family and assured about his 'safe' condition around 12:20am, the journo's father Chittaranjan Das said while talking to the news agency.

The 29-year-old, who lived in the capital’s Fakirapool, disappeared after leaving the Purboposhcimbd office at the city’s Motijheel commercial hub. His phone was also switched off.

The portal’s Chief Editor Peer Habibur Rahman said the news has ‘brought a big relief’.
