A police constable, who went missing after jumping into the Kaliganga River for arresting a convicted accused at Joynagar village in Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon, found dead in the river on Friday afternoon.
Divers from Dhaka Fire Service and Civil Defence conducted rescue operation around 9:30 am and recovered the body at 1:15 pm, said Rifat Rahman Shamim, superintendent of Manikganj police.
Rakibuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said a team of police led by sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam conducted a drive in Joynagar area around 5 pm to arrest Salam, a convicted accused in a drug case.
Being chased, Salam jumped into the river in a bid to escape from the scene.
Following Salam, Shaheen also jumped into the river and went missing, reports UNB.
However, Salam fled coming out of river and went into hiding while the constable remained missing, the OC said.
