Minister sees no cop failure behind Sagar-Runi murder probe

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan sees no failure of law enforcers in unearthing the mystery behind the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

The minister came up with the remarks on Sunday while replying to a query from reporters over the matter at the secretariat.

"Our Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is working on it as per the High Court order. They are working with DNA samples. I think, they will soon see a success," he said.

On February 11 of 2012, Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi were found dead at their rented apartment at West Razabazar area in Dhaka.

Talking about BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's division in jail, the minister said, "We have taken all the necessary measures in jail considering Khaleda Zia's social status."

The government will also implement the court's directive, he said.

Asaduzzaman Khan said special security measures will be taken across the country marking the International Mother Language Day on February 21.

According to UNB, additional forces will be deployed from the night of February 20 while central Shaheed Minar, Dhaka University and Nilkhet area will be brought under the purview of CCTV camera, he said.

"No car without sticker will be allowed inside Dhaka University and Nilkhet areas after the evening of February 20," he said.
