Planning Minister M A Mannan expressed his tough stance on project evaluation, and asked the authorities concerned to oversee the development works properly.
"You have to be tough in project evaluation. You should have strong critical opinions on the development works when you go for monitoring and evaluation of projects," he said while speaking at a workshop in Dhaka on Tuesday.
M A Mannan attended the inauguration ceremony of the workshop on "Orientation of project monitoring and evaluation" as the chief guest, with Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) Secretary Pradip Ranjan Chakrabarty in the chair.
The IMED under the Planning Commission organised the workshop.
Some project directors and evaluation-related government officials participated in the workshop.
The planning minister said: "Timely project implementation by maintaining quality is a big challenge now. Therefore, it has emerged as a big question among people. So, we have to overcome those odds."
"People supply funds for the development works by paying taxes from their hard-earned income. We cannot do injustice to them."
The minister asked the civil servants concerned to take a tough stance for ensuring quality project implementation.
The project implementation is in a bad shape as the public agencies executed only 24 per cent of the Tk 2.14 trillion Annual Development Programme (ADP) in July-Dec period this FY 2020-21.
M A Mannan was also critical on presentation of bouquet to him during the workshop inaugural ceremony.
He said, "We have to eliminate this culture to improve our duties and responsibilities."
"I do not want flower or testimonial from you; rather give me quality project works, so that I can assure our premier and people that the government is working for all," he added.
