Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday said they were yet to receive any information over transmission of Omicron in Bangladesh.

The minister made the comment while inaugurating various development works, for instance, oxygen plant and children corner, at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where Indian High Commissioner Vikram K Doraiswami was also present.

"There is no information of local transmission to others from the Omicron-infected women cricketers. The infected duo is doing fine. There is no reason to worry about the new variant," he said.

He called upon all the citizens to remain cautious with following Covid-19 health protocols, to avert any horrific health concerns in the coming days.

"We don't want to see any further wave (of coronavirus infection). We all have to behave carefully so that the second wave remains the last wave for us," the minister said.

Responding to a question, Mr Maleque said no situation requiring lockdown had been created yet.

"So, don't get panicked. Just maintain health guidelines and get vaccinated," he said.

About the supply of coronavirus antidotes, he said the government had 40 million vaccines in its stock. "There is no shortage of vaccines."

Meanwhile, Bangladesh recorded another six deaths along with 329 new cases from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours until Sunday morning.

With the new figures, the entire tally of Coronavirus-related fatalities rose to 28,028, while the total caseload stood at 1,579,325, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period of time, the health authorities reported that 288 patients also recovered from Covid-19 across the country.

It took the total number of recoveries to 1,544,150.
