Mild heatwave likely to continue till Thursday

A mild heatwave is sweeping over Khulna division and different regions of the country and it may continue until Thursday, according to an official at Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Rain or thundershower activity is likely to occur over the northeastern part of Bangladesh on Friday, the official said.

Talking to The Financial Express, AKM Nazmul Haque, a BMD meteorologist, said a mild heatwave is currently sweeping over Khulna division and different regions of Dhaka, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Rangamati, Feni, Srimangal, Rajshahi, Dinajpur & Khepupara and it may continue until Thursday.

The highest temperature was recorded at 37.5 degrees Celsius in Rangamati, Chuadanga and Kumarkhali on Monday while the lowest temperature, 20.2 degrees Celsius, in Tentulia, he added.

The BMD in its weather forecast this morning said weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country with chances of light rain/drizzle at one or two places over Sylhet division.

In its 24-hour forecast, the Met Office said day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area, he said, adding that seasonal low lies over South Bay.

The sun sets at 6:19 pm today (Tuesday) and rises at 5:38 am on Wednesday in Dhaka.
