Mild cold wave may continue throughout January

The ongoing mild cold wave, sweeping over most regions of the country, is likely to persist throughout January.

The moderate cold wave hitting certain regions might decrease within two or three days as the country's overall mercury level starts increasing gradually.

"The moderate cold wave, severity with minimum temperature at 6.1-8.0 degree Celsius, is may abate by the next two or three days.

But the mild cold wave situation, severity with minimum mercury level at 8.1-10.0 degree Celsius, may continue throughout this month over a few regions of the country," said BSS citing Mizanur Rahman, a meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD)on Saturday morning.

The overall temperature of the country increased by 4.5 degree Celsius with today's minimum temperature reaching 7.0 degree Celsius at northwestern Tetulia that witnessed record low temperature at 2.6 degree Celsius on January 8, he said.

However, the met office in a weather forecast today said mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions and the regions of Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Jessore, Kushtia, Satkhira, Chuadanga, Barisal, Sitakunda and Rangamati.

Moderate to thick fog may occur over the country from midnight to Sunday morning and it may continue at places till noon while weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.

Night temperature may rise by 1-2 degree Celsius and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Minimum temperature of the country was recorded today 7.0 degree Celsius at Tetulia and Jessore respectively and maximum temperature at 24.8 degrees Celsius at Khepupara in Barisal division on Friday.

The sun sets at 5:31pm Saturday and rises at 6:44am Sunday in Dhaka.
