Mild cold wave likely to sweep over country Sunday

A mild cold wave may sweep over the western part of the country from the next 48 hours starting from Sunday as the temperature is likely to remain between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, according to a met official.

AKM Ruhul Kuddus, a meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department( BMD), told The Financial Express that the lowest temperature at Tetulia was recorded at 9.4 degrees Celsius until 6:00 am today ( Saturday).

The mild cold wave may prevail in Dinajpur, Rangpur, Khulna, Faridpur, Bogura, Pabna, Kushtia, Satkhira, Rajshahi and Jashore, he added.

However, he said the temperature may increase in those areas from December 21 (Tuesday).

Temperature between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius is termed as a mild cold wave.

The moderate cold wave is termed when the temperature is recorded between 6 to 8 degrees Celsius while the temperature below 6 degrees Celsius is called intense cold wave, the meteorologist added.

In its 72-hour forecast, the BMD said that the temperature may fall.

The weather may remain dry with the temporary partly cloudy sky over the country, the met office in its 24-hour forecast on Saturday morning said.

Light fog may occur at places over the country during the early morning, it said.

Night and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the BMD added.

Ridge of sub-continental high extends up to West Bengal and the adjoining area, it said, adding that a low-pressure area has formed over Southeast Bay and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean.
